A short biography of Dr. Suliyat Ajoke Ogungboyega
Born on the 3rd of March, 1969, in the historic city of Iwo, Osun State to the family of Mr and Mrs Muyiliyu Alagbe of Saawo’s compound Iwo, Dr. Ogungboyega JimSalaam is a proud daughter of Nigerian soil whose life’s work has been shaped by an enduring passion for learning and the transformation of young minds.
Her academic journey began with her West African School Certificate from L.A. Commercial Grammar School, Iwo. She proceeded to earn her Nigeria Certificate in Education from the then, St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo now, Emamanuel Alayande University of Education and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education in Business Education from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating in 1998.
She went on to obtain a Master of Education in Business Education from the University of Benin, and followed that up with a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, in 2018.
Dr. Ogungboyega’s professional life spans over three remarkable decades in education. She worked as a confidential secretary at OSADEP, Iwo before she began her teaching career in 1993 with the Osun State Teaching Service Commission and has since served with distinction across several institutions, from Elemoadana Community Grammar School, Iwo to L.A Commercial Grammar School, Iwo to Air Force Comprehensive School, Ibadan, to Emmanuel
Alayande College of Education, Oyo, to the University of Ilorin, and most recently at the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, where she currently holds the rank of Chief Lecturer.
She has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, demonstrating that her commitment to teaching knows no boundaries. She was also an external assessor at the then, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, now, Adeyemi University of Education, Federal College of Education, Yabatech and Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa.
In administration, she has proven herself a capable and principled leader. She has served as
Principal of SPED International Secondary School, Chairperson of the Departmental
Publication Committee, National Auditor of the Business Educators in Vocational Education, Level Adviser at the University of Ilorin, and in numerous other capacities that reveal a woman trusted by her peers and her institution alike.
As a scholar, Dr. Ogungboyega’s contributions to knowledge are formidable. She is the author and co-author of over 41 peer-reviewed journal articles, with publications spanning themes of entrepreneurship education, ICT integration in teaching, assistive technology, vocational and technical education, business education curriculum, and the employability of graduates. Her research has appeared in national and international journals, and she has presented 18 papers at conferences across Nigeria.
She is also a published author of educational textbooks that have equipped countless students across Nigeria, including Shorthand Made Easy for Beginners and Advanced Students, New Approach to Keyboarding, Principles of Management, Applied Typing, Typewriting for Beginners, and New Keyboarding Approach.
Beyond the walls of academia, Dr. Ogungboyega JimSalaam is a woman of deep faith, community service, and social conscience. She has delivered public lectures on women’s rights, child education, national peace, and Islamic values at radio stations, mosques, schools, and civic gatherings.
A devoted wife and mother of four, Dr. Ogungboyega JimSalaam carries the warmth of family into every endeavour she undertakes.
